  1. Job duration: March 25 through May 25, 2020 Job description: Develop and conduct presentations about raptor migration. Develop and/or become familiar with Raptor Education programs for presentation at various venues. Become familiar with Raptors at Mackinac Straits: species, migration periods, numbers. Post information on social media that helps people plan for a next-day visit to the Hawk Watch (a description of the day’s migration and prediction of the following day’s migration and weather forecast in terms that help people decide which will be good days to attend). Plan posts for future events. On a weekend stage at least one Golden Eagle Day and one Red-tailed Hawk Day during peak migration with presentation highlighting those species. Conduct Owl research/banding demonstration one evening per weekend during peak migration. Engage casual and/or beginner birder visitors at Hawk Watch, depending on experience, discuss binocular use, identifying raptors in flight etc. Schedule/guide local groups, including Audubon, Garden Club, and other organizations. Review/execute current displays on the kiosk at Hawk Watch site. Track site visitors (name, address, email), those attending presentation, first-time versus repeat visitors. Qualifications: Biology/education background. Experience with raptor migration and identification. Compensation: $1300 to $1500 per month, housing provided.   2. Job duration: March 20 till May 15, 2020 Duties:Set up and maintain mist nets to capture Owls, setting nets at dusk with regular net checks till dawn, except inclement weather. Keep legible records for all birds banded (date, time, measurements, age and sex). Must write blog report on MSRW web-site, minimum 2 times per week, write end of season report on activities. Owl species include: mostly NSWO, some LEOW, possible BDOW, GHOW, ESOW and BOOW. Average 150 to 200 Owls per season. Qualifications: Lead Bander must have experience using mist nets to capture and extract owls. Experience record keeping, handling and banding raptors, particularly Owls. Experience identifying owls, taking measurements & using Pyle guide to age and sex owls. Assistant owl bander: must have experience using mist nets to capture and extract birds. Experience identifying and banding birds using Pyle guide. Must be in good physical condition and able to withstand cold working conditions. Applicants must have own transportation and be able to live with co-worker in close quarters. Housing provided, 1 room primitive cabin in State Park, no electricity, wood heat. Compensation: $1300 to $1500 per month depending on experience, housing provided.   3. Mackinac Straits Raptor Watch seeks a Director as a part-time contractor. The Director is responsible to achieve Mackinac Straits Raptor Watch (MSRW) mission and goals, both through direct task work and through recruiting, energizing, and guiding volunteers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, along with experience in management, including financial, fundraising, and organizational development.
