This classic OTS field course has trained tropical biologists since the 1960s. At its heart lie the highly regarded OTS “field problems”, which engage students in the fast-paced formulation of research questions, experimental design, data collection, analysis, and oral and written presentations. Students will take away advanced skills in research design, data analysis, writing, science communication, modeling, and collaborative research – all in the breath-taking tropical setting that is Costa Rica. Long days and late nights, filled with science. Application Deadline: February 17, 2014
Melanie Colón Posted March 12, 2014 Author Posted March 12, 2014 The course Tropical Biology An Ecological Approach is still accepting student applications. Keep in mind that this course is aimed at getting students into the field and developing research skills for a 6 week period. The course is in the field the entire 6 weeks, and visits the OTS research stations and several other environments from the pacific coast all the way up to the Costa Rican Paramo and oak forest at 2300m. Aside from research and field experience students participate in a video and podcast production workshop taught by the team at Days Edge Productions and Radio Lab, respectively. This workshop is part of the Science Communication Unit the course includes.
