Melanie Colón Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Advanced Banding Workshop: Powdermill Nature Reserve – Pennsylvania Agency: Powdermill Nature Reserve Location: United States Job Category: Training website: http://www.powdermillarc.org/education/workshops.aspx Salary: N/A Start Date: 09/11/2013 Last Date to Apply: 09/06/2013 Description: Powdermill Avian Research Center will be holding an Advanced Bird Banding Workshop September 11th-15th at Powdermill Nature Reserve in Western Pennsylvania. Participants can arrive on Tuesday afternoon/evening (10th) and depart on Sunday afternoon (15th). This will allow for 5 full days (weather permitting) of bird banding. Participants in this workshop are expected to already be comfortable extracting birds from mist-nets, and the focus will be on the aging and sexing of passerines (using molt limits, plumage, iris color, and skull pneumatization). The majority of time will be spent in the field with live birds; however, these sessions will be complemented with some afternoon or evening presentations. The workshop costs $600 per person and on site lodging (with kitchen) and breakfast is included. We keep these workshops small (5-7) to ensure ample 1:1 instruction, so space is limited and workshops generally fill up quickly. If you are interested in the workshop or would like additional details please contact Luke DeGroote (DeGrooteL@carnegiemnh.org). Qualifications: Prior experience extracting passerines from mist nets.
