  1. Description: The Nongame Bird Program (NBP) at the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is seeking bids from qualified independent contractors to execute secretive marshbird surveys in the Rainwater Basin in south-central Nebraska from approximately mid-May through mid-July 2020. The selected contractor will conduct surveys that follows a schedule provided by the NBP. In all, the selected contractor will navigate to 300 pre-determined surveys points and then conduct call broadcast surveys for selected species that follows methods outlined by Conway (2011; see Waterbirds 34: 319- 346). Many survey locations require the ability to hike in and out of dense wetland vegetation and standing water. Field conditions are likely to be variable. Survey sites will include wetland areas embedded within state and federal conservation properties that are distributed throughout the Rainwater Basin, an intensively agricultural region covering approximately 10,000 square kilometers. Qualifications: Interested parties should have knowledge about and experience conducting avian surveys. Interested parties should be familiar with secretive marshbird species (rails, grebes and bitterns) that occur in the Great Plains. Black and King rail are focal species of the project. Interested parties must have the ability to work as an independent contractor.
