Job Description: Opening for 8 wildlife technicians starting April March 1, 2018 and finishing between through 01 July and 01 August 1, 2018 to collect field data to 1) study fire, invasive plant, and predation effects on sage-grouse habitat use and adult, nest, and brood survival, 2) study movement, habitat use, resource use, nest success, and survival of common ravens, and 3) study sagebrush-obligate songbird abundance, nest success, and resource selection in relation to sage-grouse. Duties: Sage-grouse and raven capture; radio-marking; radio telemetry; nest and brood monitoring; vegetation sampling; data entry; early morning avian point count surveys; walking transect nesting surveys; trail camera deployment; data entry. The position requires long and irregular hours (night work- during trapping, early mornings for point counts) under adverse field conditions (heat, wind, rain, snow, mud) in remote areas. Individuals will be required to work in the field by themselves and in group settings. Housing is provided by the project. Technicians will be placed in one of three study sites (Baker City, Juntura, and Jordan Valley, Oregon) for the majority of field work. Preferred Qualifications: Applicant should have, or are pursuing, a BS in wildlife, biology, or related field. Applicants should be self-motivated and experienced with avian surveys, bird capture, radio telemetry, 4WD vehicles, ATVs, and GPS navigation. Strong organizational and data recording and management skills are required. Candidates should be able to perform duties independent of direct supervision. A valid driver's license is required. Preference will be given to individuals able to identify birds of western North America by sight and sound, identify songbird nests and eggs, capture and process sage-grouse and ravens, have ATV experience, and current First Aid/CPR certification.
