The North American Banding Council (NABC) will be holding a Certification Session for passerines on October 4-6, 2019 at Powdermill Avian Research Center (PARC) in Rector, Pennsylvania. Testing will be available at the assistant, bander, and trainer levels. Applicants must pass written and field exams to be NABC-certified. Candidates are encouraged to contact an NABC trainer as early as possible to proctor the written exam portion of the certification before to coming to PARC; however, for those not able to do so, the exam may be taken at PARC by prior arrangement. 19th – 26th August 2019 Powdermill Nature Reserve Powdermill Nature Reserve is pleased to announce that we will be holding an Advanced Ornithological Techniques Course for Latin Americans the 19th – 26th of August. Topics include best banding practices, ageing birds via molt limits, Motus Wildlife Tracking systems, molecular identification of diet and gut microflora, ecological impacts of frugivorous birds, bioacoustics, and utility of museum specimens for ecological research. Most of the course will be in English with Spanish-speaking instructors participating throughout its duration.
I am pleased to announce that Powdermill Nature Reserve will be holding an “Ageing Birds with Molt Limits” workshop in September 2019. Spring “Ageing Birds with Molt Limits” Workshop: Wednesday, September 18 through Sunday, September 22. The workshop will begin before dawn on Wednesday (9/18) and end Sunday (9/22) at noon. Participants will want to arrive Tuesday evening (9/17) prior to the workshop. The majority of time will be spent in the field with live birds, and these sessions will be complemented with afternoon presentations and discussions. This workshop is an excellent primer
