Job Description:
Seasonal Avian Research Assistants (2) needed from 14 May through 22 June to document local avian species composition and distribution as part of a long-term bird-monitoring program. Assistants will be responsible for auditory and visual bird surveys across multiple Ranger Districts in the Kisatchie National Forest, maintenance of field equipment, data entry, and other related tasks. Some weekend work will be required. Technicians should expect pre-dawn physically demanding days in adverse conditions, biting insects, and hot, humid weather. You must supply your own binoculars.
Requirements:
Experience or coursework in wildlife biology or a related field
Strong attention to detail in data collection
Positive attitude in challenging environmental conditions
Possess a valid driver’s license
Good eyesight, hearing, and patience for bird observation
Flexibility to work independently and in groups
Adaptability to changes in location and protocols
Preference will be given to applicants with:
Experience identifying southeastern birds by sight and sound
Proficiency in navigating using handheld GPS units
Familiarity with Microsoft Access, Excel, ArcMap

$12 per hour, DOE (40 hours/week)
