  1. Job description We are seeking a biological technician to conduct avian point counts this summer as part of a state-wide wildlife monitoring and management initiative in Alabama. The project is being coordinated in collaboration between Auburn University, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and the U.S. Geological Survey. Primary responsibilities include conducting avian point counts and vegetation sampling. Other duties will include data entry, database management, and maintenance of field equipment and vehicles. Candidates must be prepared and able to work under challenging environmental conditions which include exposure to elements such as heat, humidity, and presence of wildlife and biting insects. Technicians will be provided with field housing at hotels and AirBnbs throughout the summer. Qualifications The technician will join a group of 11 other graduate students and technicians working on this project and therefore must have strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work as a productive member of a team. Ideal candidates should hold or be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a biology-related field, display high motivation, and have experience in conducting field surveys, particularly with birds and vegetation. Proficiency in GPS navigation, possession of a valid driver's license, and the ability to work in challenging environmental conditions are essential. Candidates should be comfortable carrying light field equipment for extended periods. We will give preference to those with experience in identifying southeastern birds by sight and sound and in vegetation identification. This appointment will begin immediately and will extend into early August. Compensation will be $15-18/hour (plus housing), conditional on experience. Candidates skilled in small mammal trapping and identification may be considered for up to a 4-month extension.
