Wild Turkey Technician
Location: Leesville, Louisiana
Salary: $2,400 ($15/hour) + free housing
Starting Date: July 1st, 2024, End Date: January 1st, 2025 (with extension possible)
The School of Renewable Natural Resources at Louisiana State University is seeking 1 experienced field technician to assist a research project evaluating Eastern wild turkey ecology in West Louisiana. One position will begin on January 8, 2024, and will last for 6 months, and one will begin on July 1, 2024, with a duration of 6 months as well as a possibility of extension. Starting dates can be somewhat flexible.
Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, capturing, marking, and tracking wild turkeys via radiotelemetry, nest and brood monitoring, vegetation surveys, and data management. This will involve working both independently and as part of a small team. Fieldwork may be strenuous and requires working in hot and humid environments. The successful candidate will work with a team of graduate students, field technicians, private landowners, university faculty, state biologists.
A large portion of this job will require living and working alone with little to no supervision. The successful candidate should be able to execute job duties under these conditions.
Salary is $15/hour with shared housing and a work vehicle provided. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
Preferred Experience:
Radio telemetry and wildlife tracking
Vegetation sampling
Driving an ATV and trailer
Working as a team and independently
Required Qualifications:
B.S. in Biology or a related field
Valid U.S. license
Experience driving 4WD vehicles
