This seasonal research assistant position with Delaware's Species Conservation and Research Program will assist the State Marsh Bird Biologist with marsh bird monitoring statewide. Job responsibilities include marsh bird point count surveys from April-September following standardized protocols; nest searching and nest monitoring of marsh birds in specific study areas following standardized protocols; assisting with mist-netting and banding of marsh birds within specific study areas; data entry; and assisting with other field activities as needed, including marsh vegetation surveys, communicating with land managers, maintenance of field equipment and assisting with other wildlife research projects. Daily work entails: walking up to 5 miles in mud and marsh habitat in hot, humid, and buggy conditions with little to no shade; operating and trailering small boats and kayaks; carrying field equipment; and using binoculars and bird song playback equipment. Applicants must be available to work very early mornings (e.g., start time 4:30am) often and when needed.
