Description and Duties
Seeking a highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral researcher who is interested in natural resource decision-making, coastal ecosystems, and habitat modeling to improve our understanding of tidal flat habitat and its associated species within the Gulf of Mexico.
Project objectives include 1) identify existing tidal flats and examine spatial extent and variation across the northern Gulf of Mexico, 2) comparing species (e.g., birds) occurrence and movement data with tidal flat data and 3) assemble multi-disciplinary team of resource managers and scientists to prioritize tidal flats based on current/future conservation value and identify uncertainties underlying restoration of tidal flats. The postdoctoral researcher will lead the efforts in completing objectives 1 & 2 and work closely with the P.I. and multi-disciplinary team in the completion of objective 3.
This position is a full-time, non-tenure track appointment for 12 months and potentially renewable depending on funding. Annual salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include health insurance options.
Qualifications
· Ph.D. in ecology, wildlife ecology, conservation biology, geographic information systems, or a related field
· Strong background in GIS and analyzing spatial data; experience with Python, R
· Demonstrated record of research and scholarly activities (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, presentations)
· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and interpersonal communication skills
