Position Overview
The Communications Coordinator is responsible for creating and implementing a variety of tactics that ensure a strong and consistent message is delivered across all channels. The successful candidate will have experience in creating content for diverse audiences and a passion for sharing stories that showcase how we are protecting birds and their habitat. This Communications role will support the coordination of French translation for the organization and execute campaigns and social media in French. They will also support digital communications like website, social media and content creation.
This full-time role reports to the Manager of Brand Communications and is fully remote, with the possibility of periodic travel for offsite team meetings and public engagement events. Applications for this role are due by Friday, December 8, 2023.
Total Compensation
Birds Canada is proud to offer an exceptional Total Compensation Package, including a competitive starting salary and 5% RRSP matching after 12 months of service. In addition, staff enjoy a primarily employer-paid extended benefits package including health and dental coverage, Basic Group Life Insurance, Group out-of-province travel insurance, Vision, ADD&D and short- and long-term disability coverage. We offer all staff 4 weeks’ vacation per year to start along with 12 personal health days and additional paid vacation days between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Starting Salary: $46,154 - $49,231 CAD commensurate with your experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with the Brand Communications Manager to develop and implement a strategic communications plan, including being responsible for writing and editing copy and ensuring all communication is on brand.
- Administer our National social media accounts in both French and English, leading implementation of social media campaigns and engaging directly with followers.
- Manage French translation between Birds Canada staff and outside translators for products like the Annual Report and our periodic magazine, BirdWatch Canada.
- Support preparation of key fundraising products and campaigns, including reporting to donors, sponsors and partners on the outcomes of our campaigns and bringing donor campaigns to life through social media channels.
- Working with the Sr. Director, Communications and Community Engagement, provide administrative support by helping to coordinate invoices and credit card payments.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Fluently bilingual in French and English
- Google Analytics and Reporting
- Creative storyteller with excellent written and oral communications
- Detail-oriented with strong project management skills
- Experience of SEO best practices, Adobe Creative Cloud, Hootsuite and social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube
- Experience implementing advertising on digital platforms like Meta and Google Ads
- Experience implementing AODA compliant communication materials
- A Customer-centric approach to communications
- Experience in graphic design an asset
- Bird conservation knowledge is considered a strong asset

Education and Experience
- 2+ years’ relevant work experience
- Post-secondary education in communications or marketing with a focus on digital channel activation or equivalent experience
