Petition to AOS Leadership to Reconsider the Recent Decision to Change all Eponymous Bird Names

Recommended Posts

We have started a grassroots effort through a petition to ask the AOS to reconsider their decision to change all eponymous bird names. Our petition asks the AOS to go back to their previous method of evaluating potentially harmful or exclusionary eponymous names on a case-by-base. In less than a month we have achieved over 2600 signatures representing every state in the US (including DC) and 48 countries. Clearly, this is an issue of world-wide interest. I hope you will take a moment to look at the petition and if you agree, please sign it, and then share. There are many linked comments at the end of the petition text by prominent ornithologists that are worth the read. The petition can be found here: https://chng.it/VHyjZp5snr
