The eBird program has received a big boost for its online global bird tracking website. The National Science Foundation awarded the program run by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society $10 million over five years. “Our NSF Expedition brings together computer scientists and engineers, environmental and social scientists, physicists, and materials scientists charged with growing and expanding the horizons of the nascent field of Computational Sustainability,” said Cornell University’s Carla Gomes, who heads a collaborative project with eBird. One of their targets is a computer animation showing population abundance for various species such as the tree swallow. Read more at Ebird.
