    A small group of young birdwatchers, who some years previously had become the Ornithological Group of the Gibraltar Society, founded the Gibraltar in 1976. Following the partial opening of the Frontier with Spain in 1982, the name was expanded to include Natural History to arrive at the initials by which we are mostly known today “GONHS” (Gibraltar Nature News 11, 2006)
