Do you dream of working this summer in the beautiful forests of California and Oregon at night - because you’re a night owl or just plain like owls? Heck, you could run around at night hooting for owls, making cash, and working with other like-minded bird nerds to help protect a threatened species. Tanner Environmental Services (TES) is hiring full-time field biologists for temporary/seasonal positions to conduct spotted owl surveys in California and Oregon. Experience conducting surveys for spotted owls is preferred, but not required (training will be provided to all successful applicants). Work will run from when there is access in April-ish through August.

The position will involve: Navigating to remote field sites on Forest Service roads and cross-country hiking to conduct nighttime and follow-up surveys to locate the owls; and the daily reporting of results.

Positions will be available in the Sierra Nevadas and southern Oregon. Other potential work sites include the California Coast Range and southern California mountains.

Ability to work independently in remote locations.

Ability to navigate to remote field sites using Avenza, GPS, and topographic maps; driving high-clearance vehicles; and cross-country hiking long distances in rugged terrain.

Be physically fit and able to handle the demands of hiking in steep and rugged terrain.

Have minimum of one season of wildlife survey experience.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and insurance.

Use of a personal high-clearance field vehicle is preferred.

    Compensation and Benefits
    Pay Range: $25 - $35/hr.
