Foreman's Branch Bird Observatory, in conjunction with the American Bird Conservancy, is testing commercial applications to make glass more bird friendly.  NO BIRDS ARE HARMED IN THIS RESEARCH. We are hiring one research assistant for our spring migration season to operate the testing tunnel.  Staff will be trained to handle and release passerines into a flight tunnel, record flights with video camera, record data on site, and code flight data from video overview. They will also be responsible for safely handling and releasing all birds tested.  The Tunnel Testing Assistant will be part of a larger team of bird banders operating out of Foreman’s Branch Bird Observatory (FBBO). The position is 40 hr/week position at $17/hour.  Shared housing is provided.

Ideal candidates have some bird handling experience and can identify common eastern birds by sight.  While primary duties will be at the testing tunnel, there may be time for the assistant to spend time with the banding crew.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating deliveries of glass and explaining the research to visitors. The position will run March 1st through May 31st.

Applications must be submitted through Washington College's website: https://www.washcoll.edu/people_departments/offices/human-resources/employment/index.php  (you may need to scroll through multiple pages of listings).  Please upload a single file including your cover letter, resume and references. Make sure your cover letter describes your bird identification and handling experience. Please put your last name in the file name. Questions can be directed to Maren Gimpel mgimpel2@washcoll.edu
