      Last Date to Apply: 02/15/2023
      Open Until Filled: Yes

Hawks Aloft, Inc., a New Mexico non-profit organization, seeks an enthusiastic field technician (actually, two) for a variety of studies, including:

    1) standard songbird surveys in riparian woodland and coniferous forest in New Mexico, and

    2) monitoring raptor nesting activity and reproductive success at multiple locations in New Mexico.

Position will be filled as soon as a suitable applicant is found.

Songbird surveys will include transect surveys and point counts in the Middle Rio Grande Bosque (riparian woodland) and Santa Fe National Forest (coniferous forest); raptor surveys will include nest monitoring in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument and locations in western and central New Mexico, and nocturnal owl surveys at Valles Caldera National Preserve.

Other duties will include data entry and, potentially, data analysis.

We invite enthusiastic applicants with a demonstrated ability to work independently in remote areas with minimal supervision; demonstrated experience identifying western birds by sight and
sound; and previous field experience with birds and other wildlife.

BS/BA in a biologically related field or work towards a college degree in biological sciences is preferred.

Completed survey protocol training for one or more of the following species is desirable: Mexican Spotted Owl, Southwestern Willow Flycatcher, and Yellow-billed Cuckoo.

Position based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but will require some overnight travel and camping, as well as high elevation surveys in the Jemez Mountains and the Rio Grande Gorge. Early morning work required. A company vehicle might be provided, but must be willing to use your own high-clearance vehicle, if necessary (mileage reimbursed). Attention to detail and good time management skills are imperative.

Generally, Monday-Friday with variable hours. Monthly stipend of $3,000+; housing NOT provided.

Please e-mail a cover letter including dates of availability, resume, and at least three references to gail@hawksaloft.org.
