Complete bird surveys across Oklahoma for the second Oklahoma Breeding Bird Atlas. Applicants should have a strong background both in field ornithology and in working with a wide variety of people. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Prior bird atlasing experience helpful but not required. Responsibilities include respectful interactions with local residents and landowners, surveying atlas blocks for breeding birds throughout the state, and maintaining accurate records. Good bird ID skills by sight and sound needed. Must be able to work independently, be willing to travel throughout Oklahoma on a continuous basis, often on back roads in poor condition, and (most likely) camp a majority of the time ($20 per diem to help offset camping expenses). Oklahoma has great habitat diversity, supporting Swainson’s Warblers in the southeast to Golden Eagles in the northwest, and Golden-fronted Woodpeckers in the southwest to Scarlet Tanagers in the northeast. Salary $2,700/month. Motivated applicants send letter, resume, and 3 references. Contact Dan Reinking dan@suttoncenter.org (preferred contact method)
