Two positions available. The intern serves as an endangered species technician at Carolina Sandhills NWR in support of the biologist during Red-cockaded Woodpecker (RCW) nesting season. Duties include monitoring RCW nests for clutch size, brood size, and fledging; conducting behavioral observations on adult and juvenile RCWs; reading color bands from a distance; using an iPad and ArcGIS Field Maps to record data and tree locations; assessing condition, painting and tagging cavity trees; and maintaining vehicles and equipment in working order. Other duties may include assisting with environmental education events such as a Kids Fishing Derby and school groups.
