    Two positions available.  The intern serves as an endangered species technician at Carolina Sandhills NWR in support of the biologist during Red-cockaded Woodpecker (RCW) nesting season.  Duties include monitoring RCW nests for clutch size, brood size, and fledging; conducting behavioral observations on adult and juvenile RCWs; reading color bands from a distance; using an iPad and ArcGIS Field Maps to record data and tree locations; assessing condition, painting and tagging cavity trees; and maintaining vehicles and equipment in working order.  Other duties may include assisting with environmental education events such as a Kids Fishing Derby and school groups.  Applicants must apply through the Student Conservation Association website (www.thesca.org), position number PO-00735603.  Benefits include:  free on-site housing, $600/week living allowance, $1,100 one-time round trip travel allowance, and eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award.  Potential applicants need a valid drivers license, be a US citizen, be at least 18 years of age, and have a high school diploma or equivalent although candidates with college/university experience/degrees will have preference.
