The National Bobwhite and Grassland Initiative (NBGI; https://nbgi.org/) seeks 2 highly motivated, fieldwork-capable students to support the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch (RPQRR; https://www.quailresearch.org/) in Fisher County, Texas during summer 2024. The positions will assist with the development of RPQRR as a NBGI Coordinated Implementation Program (CIP) site. Primary duties include conducting breeding bird point counts and habitat evaluation surveys, and submitting this data into NBGI databases. Interns may also assist RPQRR staff with habitat management activities such as prescribed burns, planting food plots, mechanical brush management, etc. Selected candidates would be involved in nationally significant conservation work including research, monitoring, and habitat management, and would gain invaluable experience with NBGI, RPQRR, and state agency staff. These positions include a salary of $12 per hour (typical 40-hour workweek), field housing, and mileage for work travel in personal vehicles. Specific duties are as follows:
· Conduct breeding bird point count surveys for Northern Bobwhite and several other grassland bird species
· Conduct habitat evaluation surveys
· Assist with control burns, mechanical brush control, planting food plots, etc.
· Small tractor and equipment operation
