    Redhorse Corporation has an immediate need for a full-time Biologist to join our environmental support team on a multi-year engagement located at Edwards AFB, CA. The Biologist will perform services in support of natural resource management and in compliance with the Edwards AFB Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP), Sikes Act; Endangered Species Act (ESA); applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations; and related DoD and AF directives. Natural resource management services shall include support of the AF Environmental Impact Analysis Program (EIAP) by monitoring activities for compliance with minimization measures, and reporting on EIAP monitoring activities, and wildlife call response and reporting.

     

    The Biologist will have experience working with Desert tortoise, be familiar with the Desert Tortoise Recovery Plan, and be an Authorized Biologist under USFWS. If you are not an Authorized Desert tortoise biologist, but have enough Desert tortoise experience to become authorized, please apply.

    Responsibilities

    The Biologist will provide Desert tortoise training to natural resources and installation personnel and prepare course material and natural resources program brochures suitable for installation wide distribution.

    The Biologist will support the installation Natural Resources Manager. The Biologist will communicate directly with the Redhorse Program Manager and client, as directed, and manage work assignments.

    Primary duties will focus on implementing activities necessary to achieve compliance with Protective Measures, Proposed Action Minimization Measures, and Terms and Conditions of the Basewide Biological Opinion, the Desert tortoise adoption program, and managing the Edwards AFB Desert tortoise habitat fencing. This position involves conducting field work, research, and producing monthly and annual activity reports.

    Minimum Requirements

    3+ years of direct experience working with Desert Tortoise, familiarity with the Desert Tortoise Recovery Plan, and be (or be able to become) an Authorized Biologist under USFWS.

    Bachelor’s degree in biology, botany, ecology, or closely related field OR a Master’s degree in a relevant field.

    A working knowledge of standard office computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).

    Knowledge and experience with mapping software (ArcGIS).

    Valid driver's license, clean driving record.

    Upon hiring, the applicant must be able to pass a federal background check required prior to gaining access to unclassified government computer work stations.

    Preferred Experience

    Experience working in the Mojave Desert ecosystem and the ability to work long days in a wide range of weather conditions.

    Excellent animal/plant species identification skills for species common to the Mojave Desert or experience in animal/plant species identification in other desert ecosystems with an aptitude for learning new species quickly.

    Experience mending fence breaches

    Experience navigating and collecting data using GPS technology.

    Ability to operate 4x4 vehicles on unimproved dirt roads and ability to change a flat tire independently.

    The work environment for this position requires an individual to be able to:

    Must be able walk over long distances and across of variety of terrains, including uneven surfaces for extended periods of time.

    Must be able to climb, jump, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.

    Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

    Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
