    Emporia State University (ESU) in Emporia, KS, invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, to begin August 2024. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Fisheries and Wildlife and Geospatial programs.

    Teaching responsibilities would include areas of expertise in geospatial analysis with an ecological emphasis, wildlife ecology and conservation, and zoology (ideally mammalogy).

    Utilization of ESU’s geospatial lab for undergraduate and advanced courses in GIS is strongly

    desired. Other specialty courses that complement our existing offerings at the undergraduate and graduate levels are welcomed.

    Teaching responsibilities could also include introductory biology courses (Organismic Biology, Ecology, Field Ecology, etc.) in rotation with other instructors.

    Faculty members typically teach 12 contact hours (or equivalent) per semester. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop an active research program, including the supervision of graduate (M.S.) and undergraduate research, and will be encouraged to apply for extramural funding, which ESU has been repeatedly successful in acquiring from state and federal agencies and non-governmental conservation organizations. 

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    A Ph.D. and relevant research experience are required by the start date. Postdoctoral experience is highly desirable.

    In addition to geospatial skills, applicants should have expertise in field-based research involving conservation, population, community, and/or behavioral ecology, as well as experience with contemporary statistical modeling approaches.

    Expertise in applied ecology is strongly desired for mentorship of our students in the Fisheries and Wildlife/Ecology and Biodiversity concentrations and also for potential collaboration with the on-campus Research and Survey Office of the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.

    Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications.
