
Many OE members join OE because they are job-hunting or looking for graduate fellowships. We may be living in an electronic age, but the old rules still apply – it isn’t what you know, it’s who you know! That’s the premise behind LinkedIn, but let’s be real. A mere “accept” click doesn’t mean someone knows you. So how do people who want jobs or graduate fellowships really get to know ornithologists? Join one or more of the ornithological societies. Attend meetings. Communicate via Ornithology Exchange.
But the key here is SOCIETY. The ornithological societies are your best linkages. Low-tech? Sure. But far more direct connections to the people you actually want to know, not just “anyone who happens to have some interest in birds.”
Join a society. Today.
