Due to the occurrence of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Ontario, APHIS plans to impose import restrictions on imports of avian samples and specimens from this region.
Restrictions are already in place for some parts of British Columbia. An APHIS import permit (VS16-3) and a certificate of treatment will be needed (unless the importing lab is USDA-certified as biosafety level 2).
It is expected that the restrictions for Ontario will be the same as those previously imposed for British Columbia.
Please check back here for updates.
This is a complex process and those planning to import from Canada might want to contact the Ornithological Council for assistance.
