Ornitología Colombiana publica contribuciones científicas originales sobre aves colombianas. Los manuscritos pueden ser de tres tipos: artículos, notas breves y comentarios. Los artículos son contribuciones extensas, divididas en secciones con varias tablas, figuras y anexos en algunos casos; las notas breves son menos extensas (7 páginas o menos) con pocas figuras o tablas. Los comentarios son textos cortos que incluyen opiniones y análisis de temas de la actualidad ornitológica, generalmente de mil palabras o menos.
Adicionalmente existe un espacio para la publicación de reseñas de libros y una sección de resúmenes de tesis de grado de universidades colombianas que tiene el objetivo de dar a conocer este tipo de trabajos de escasa difusión y que constituyen una contribución importante a la ornitología colombiana.
La aceptación de los trabajos para su publicación en Ornitología Colombiana depende de las evaluaciones del consejo editorial y de dos o más especialistas en la materia. Los manuscritos que no se ajusten a la temática, al estilo o el formato de la revista serán devueltos sin pasar a evaluación.

Ornitología Colombiana publishes original scientific contributions on Colombian birds. Manuscripts may be of three types: articles, short notes and comments. Articles are extensive contributions, divided into sections with several tables, figures and appendices in some cases. Brief notes are less extensive (7 pages or less) with few figures or tables. Comments are short texts that include reviews and analysis of current bird issues, usually a thousand words or less.
Additionally there is a space for the publication of book reviews and a section of abstracts of graduate theses from Colombian universities which aims to raise awareness of this type of work that receives limited dissemination and constitutes an important contribution to Colombian ornithology.
Acceptance of papers for publication in Ornitología Colombiana depends on the assessments of the editorial board and two or more specialists in the field. Manuscripts that do not conform to the theme, style or format of the journal will be returned without being evaluated.
