DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The Pennsylvania Game Commission's State Ornithologist coordinates, directs, and supervises the Endangered & Nongame Bird Section of the Wildlife Diversity Division within the Bureau of Wildlife Management for the conservation of all bird species not classified as game, by conducting research and monitoring, contributing to educational products, and recommending management efforts. This position coordinates the compilation of the best knowledge possible on bird populations, threats, trends, conservation strategies, and natural history in order to promote bird conservation. This work strives to sustain all native populations within their ecological roles, recover declining native populations to self-sustaining levels, and build public support for ongoing bird conservation efforts throughout the life-cycles of the state's birds to represent and future generations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications:
PA residency currently waived for this title.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid Pennsylvania automobile operator's license.
Two years of experience as a Wildlife Biologist 2
or
A Master's Degree with a major in Wildlife Management and three years of experience as a wildlife biologist.
or
A Bachelor's Degree with a major in Wildlife Management and a minimum of five years experience in wildlife management research.
