  1. A Research Ecologist position is open at the Migratory Bird Center, part of the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. We seek applicants with demonstrated experience: (1) implementing and leading field research designed to address questions on the ecology of migratory birds; (2) publishing lead-authored papers that use or develop quantitative and spatial methods to answer questions about wildlife population ecology; (3) applying statistical models to understand wildlife population ecology, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications; (4) obtaining extramural funding for research on wildlife ecology; (5) training students in wildlife ecology; and (6) presenting talks about avian ecology at a national or international conferences. Qualifications: 1 year of specialized experience (as described above) equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
