    The journal´s purpose is to make available scientific research and general information about birds and their conservation in Costa Rica and Central America. Articles are of scientific interest, and include information about observations, consevation, and other themes relevant to regional avifuana. All articles are reviewed for scientific content as well as literary quality.

    The AOCR promotes ornithological research and related activities, in order to educate the Costa Rican public about birdlife and to contribute to the conservation of wild bird populations and their respective habitats. Its membership includes ornithologists, bird watchers, and others interested in birdlife and conservation. Among its activities are monthly talks about birds, birdwatching outings, maintaining the list of Costa Rica birds, regular monitoring of bird populations, courses and workshops, and bird festivals.
