  1. This is an exciting 9-month full time position offering competitive salary with benefits to join our team and make a real difference to the future of endangered birds, in some of the most beautiful and challenging locations in the world. We focus on research and management activities for the recovery of native fauna in the Pacific, with a particular focus on the endangered `A`o (Newell’s Shearwater), `Ua`u (Hawaiian Petrel), and `Ake`ake (Band-rumped Storm-petrel). We also carry out research on five Threatened and Endangered (T&E) waterbirds; the `Alae`ula (Hawaiian Common Gallinule), `Alae ke`oke`o (Hawaiian Coot), `Ae`o (Hawaiian Stilt), Koloa maoli (Hawaiian Duck) and Nēnē (Hawaiian Goose). To monitor avian collision risk with powerlines we conduct night surveys using night vision and thermal binoculars and deploy remote sensing equipment to monitor collision when staff are not present. To access the survey sites and remote camp site, we hike on rugged trails, use 4x4 vehicles, helicopters, and move equipment with helicopter sling loads. The hard work of ARC-IMMP staff documenting avian collision risk with powerlines and testing collision reduction solutions has a direct impact on the conservation of these rare and endemic species. Come Join ARC-IMMP and make a difference at the leading edge of infrastructure minimization research.
