The Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center is dedicated to fostering greater understanding, appreciation, and protection of the grand phenomenon of bird migration. Founded in 1991, we are located at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park in Washington, D.C.
We seek to: Clarify the causes for declines in migratory bird populations before the situation becomes desperate, raise awareness of migratory birds and the need to protect their habitats through a variety of outreach programs, and protect habitats that are crucial to the annual pilgrimage of migratory birds in the Western Hemisphere.
