We are looking for volunteers to help monitor a population of red-winged fairy-wrens near Manjimup, south-west WA as part of on-going research on behavioural adaptation to environmental change. This project is also suitable for those seeking to fulfill part of their degree requirements (e.g. MSc). The study is based at Smithbrook Nature Reserve in one of the 35 biodiversity hotspots of the world!
Period: mid-October to mid-January, or part thereof.
Duties include monitoring colour banded birds, nest searching, mist netting and behavioural observations. Ideally volunteers have previous experience in monitoring and/or banding. Volunteers must be physically fit as working days are long, start early and consist of lots of hiking through dense Karri forest. Onsite accommodation is provided.
If you’re interested, please send an email outlining your relevant experience to Lyanne Brouwer (lyanne.brouwer@jcu.edu.au).
