  • Field assistant for songbird tracking in Canada - Fall migration

    Hannah Justen
    • Employer: Texas A&M University
      Location: Coastal Mountains, British Columbia
      Country: United States
      Last Date to Apply: 08/10/2023
      Open Until Filled: No

We are looking for highly-motivated volunteers to assist us with our field season in British Columbia in August/September this year.

Our team is collecting data for several projects during fall migration and we are looking to fill volunteer positions from August 24 – September 8.

Tasks include setting up mist nets, extracting birds from nets, handling birds, assisting with attachment of tracking devices and recording of morphometric data.

Applicants need to be willing to work early in the morning and in any weather condition. We will be camping close to the net site. This is a volunteer position, but there is the potential to receive a stipend depending on applicant’s experience working with mist nets and handling birds (but no previous experience is required to apply).

If you are interested in working with us this season and learn about the methods we are using to study the genetics of songbird migration, please get in contact with Hannah Justen via email (justen@tamu.edu) with a statement on why you are interested in the position and if you have any experience with handling/catching birds.
