    About the position

    Three technicians needed to assist on an American White Pelican dissuasion study on Island Park Reservoir.  Study will evaluate dissuasion techniques aimed at managing breeding pelicans at objective levels specified in the Management Plan for the Conservation of American White Pelicans in Idaho 2016-2025.  

    Position is approximately 2.5 months from late March/early April to early June

    Shared housing is available in Mack's Inn, ID

    General Information: 

    Applicants must, with or without reasonable accommodations, be capable of working in inclement weather, walking several miles per day across rough terrain and snow, and safely operating trucks with trailers, snowmachines, ATV's, and both motorized and non-motorized boats on large bodies of water.

    Technicians must be prepared to work in winter conditions.  Island Park, ID may have 3 feet of snow in April.

    Responsibilities: 

    Technicians will implement dissuasion techniques to limit pelican nesting to a designated portion of an island. Duties will include data collection on numbers, behavior, and movements of pelicans, as well as nest counts of pelicans and other colonial waterbirds.

    Technicians must be able to work effectively in teams and communicate effectively with supervisors. Technicians must be willing to work 10 hour days and some weekends.
     

    Qualifications: 

    Minimum qualifications: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.

    Preferred qualifications: BS in Wildlife/Fisheries, Biology, or related field (completed or in progress). Experience with bird ID and surveys (or other wildlife surveys). Experience with canoes, kayaks, rafts, and powerboats on large bodies of water.
