The International Crane Foundation (ICF) is looking for a community-oriented team member to provide outreach on conservation efforts for the endangered Whooping Crane. This is a limited-term employment opportunity. Salary is $15.00 an hour.
Over the past 45 years, ICF has grown from the dream of two college students to a world-renowned conservation effort to save the world’s cranes and the flyways, habitats and ecosystems on which they depend. This program assistant will administer an important education and outreach program in an area where these endangered birds winter and have historically faced not only habitat-based challenges, but increasing threats from illegal shootings.

The Whooping Crane Outreach Program Assistant II supports the mission of the International Crane Foundation by providing the leadership of initiatives necessary to preserve and grow Whooping Crane populations. The effort involves engaging individuals and conservation partners willing to assist with the awareness and protection of Whooping Cranes.
The Assistant will work with individuals and groups to develop awareness and caring for Whooping Cranes and develop their commitment to safeguard Whooping Cranes in their areas.
The Assistant will form appropriate partnerships that include involving hunters, landowners and other citizens in monitoring and keeping “watch” over the Whooping Cranes in their areas.
The primary duty of the Whooping Crane Outreach Assistant will be to conduct the Whooping Crane awareness program in Indiana, and surrounding states. The Outreach Program Assistant II will gain valuable experience working with the ICF Conservation Education Department and North America Program and will:
· Educate and inspire people of all ages and walks of life by providing Whooping Crane education and outreach programs in Indiana, including virtual and in-person visits to K-12 classrooms, civic organizations, hunting groups, gun clubs, birding groups and other organizations. This work will be done independently, with weekly check ins from a supervisor.
· Assist ICF staff with outreach efforts to raise awareness about Whooping Cranes in Indiana. This could include media interviews, organizing awareness events, and fundraisers and other duties as needed.
· Train and coordinate volunteers to help ICF at outreach events.
· Coordinate distribution of marketing materials.
· Receive training on delivering Whooping Crane programs to all age first two weeks of the position. Work with our education and outreach team to give presentations to adults and K-12 audiences, either online or in-person.
· Work with hunters through hunter education classroom and online courses to raise awareness about Whooping Cranes.
· Educate and inspire people of all ages and walks of life about the world’s 15 crane species and the ecosystems on which they depend.
· Perform other tasks as assigned.
· Oral communication: Excellent oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate conservation messages to a wide range of audiences, from individuals to lecture halls.
· Teamwork and Collaboration: Work cooperatively with individuals across departments, making valuable contributions to shared projects and assisting with outputs of others.
· Written Communication: Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to effectively proofread and edit reports and correspondence in a clear, concise, logical, and effective manner while utilizing proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure.
· Detail-oriented: Carefully monitors the details and quality of own and others’ work, ensuring accuracy and effectiveness of large and small projects and products.
· Organization and Time Management: Manage multiple concurrent and competing priorities in a fast-paced workplace, using appropriate manual and electronic resources to ensure timely completion.
· Customer Service: Very strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.
· Project Management: Demonstrated experience independently leading projects, providing metrics of milestones and meeting deadlines.
· Associate’s Degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in a biological field, communications, sociology, or other relevant field preferred.
· Valid state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
· Experience with public speaking, diverse partnerships, and volunteer management
· Access to a vehicle for travel (your work travel will be paid for through ICF funds)
· Work as a constructive member of a team, and commitment to the free sharing of information and technical expertise as needed.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently on project planning and coordinating with a long list of external partners.
· Demonstrated ability to set goals and reach them.

· Experience delivering programs via online platforms.
Preferred Experience and Knowledge:
· Background relating to wildlife conservation, education, or biology preferred
· Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and PowerPoint
· Experience working with volunteers to achieve desired results; delegate work; train and encourage skill development; access and provide feedback on individual performance.
· Exceptional customer service, proficient public speaking skills and the ability to teach diverse audiences in a non-formal setting.
· Demonstrated a strong interest/background in the fields of interpretation, environmental education, conservation biology, ornithology, education, graphic design, film/documentary production, or other related fields.

Must be able to remain in stationary position for 5-7 hours a day.

Occasionally work outdoors in a various weather conditions.
