    Job Description:

We are seeking two technicians to aid in the data collection for a research project monitoring waterbird abundance and over-water nesting activity in the Klamath Basin from May through mid-August 2022. Duties will include conducting daily waterbird surveys, nest searching/monitoring, and data entry. The majority of surveys and data collection will take place on kayaks, so technicians must be capable of paddling long distances for extended periods of time. Technicians should be comfortable working in wetland environments via watercraft (kayak, mudboat, airboat) and on foot. An average of 40-hours per week can be expected which includes early mornings and occasional weekends. Ability to work under minimal supervision and follow research protocols to ensure accurate data collection is essential for this position. Successful applicants will demonstrate a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and positive attitude. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain field experience with a variety of waterbird species. There is potential for additional volunteer opportunities assisting the refuge with waterfowl banding efforts, if desired. Shared housing and field vehicles will be provided at no cost and located on site at Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
