    The Florida Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit is seeking one field technician to assist with capturing and tagging wading birds at nest colonies in coastal Alabama. Selected applicant will assist two graduate students capturing white ibises and tricolored herons in Portersville Bay and Mobile Bay, AL. Additionally, applicant will collect biological data from birds and assist in attaching shoulder-mounted transmitter harnesses to birds. This work is part of a large project studying the movements, demography, and immunology of wading birds in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Duties will consist of 80% field data collection, 10% data entry, and 10% equipment maintenance. The position will begin on May 20th, 2021 and end no later than July 10th, 2021. The pay rate is $12- $15/hour, depending on experience. Shared on-site housing is provided.

    A successful applicant will possess a professional and positive demeanor, be flexible with work scheduling and weather, and be willing to wake up early and support other team members. Additional experience with handling birds, using mist nets, and boating is preferred but not required. Applicants must be able to work in hot and buggy conditions, to ride in a boat in choppy water, and to hike with 20 lb. packs between boat landings and nest colonies.
