SONGBIRD BANDER (1-2) needed from August 7 - October 4, 2018 for a Fall Migration Songbird Study in western Montana with the University of Montana Bird Ecology Lab (UMBEL). The project aims to collect information on patterns of western migrating passerines. We will operate 2 songbird banding stations in the Bitterroot Valley near Missoula, MT. Banding stations are located in riparian bottomland and small mountain stream habitats, and both sites will operate simultaneously. Banding takes place 4 days/week, usually Mon-Thurs. Previous banding/extraction experience is required for Bander position (minimum 500 birds, skulling experience, and knowledge of molt).  Banders will be working with a crew leader, but ideally would feel comfortable working without supervision. Technicians can expect early mornings, inclement weather, beautiful country, and rewarding work. Salary range for Banders is $10-14/hour, depending on experience. Technicians must arrange their own travel to Missoula. Housing will be provided in the Bitterroot Valley. Applicants who are available for the entirety of the field season will be given preference. To apply please e-mail a cover letter and a resume with three references to: michael.krzywicki@mso.umt.edu.  Please be sure to include information about your banding experience, specifically how many birds you have banded/extracted, as well as your experience in the use of molt limits and skulling to age birds.  We will begin reviewing applications immediately, and positions will be filled as suitable applicants are found.
