    Two seasonal positions with Delaware's Species Conservation and Research Program to assist the Delaware Shorebird Project. Primary responsibilities include recruiting, scheduling, training, and leading volunteer scientists to collect migratory shorebird data during the May field season: coordinating field activities and volunteer living logistics; data management; participating in fieldwork to include capturing and banding shorebirds using cannon nets and re-sighting marked shorebirds and assisting with other wildlife research projects. Daily work requires walking up to 5 miles in sand, operating and trailering small boats, carrying equipment, and using a spotting scope to distinguish colored leg bands and coded flags on shorebirds at a distance. Duties outside the May field season include data entry and management, assisting with other field projects, preparing reports and outreach materials for volunteers and the public using GIS, Excel, and Access. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.
     

    Essential functions:
    -Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
    -Collects field samples and data.
    -Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
    -Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
    -Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
    -Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
    -Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
    -May assist in processing biological samples.


    Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
    -Six months experience in conducting field work to collect environmental or ecological samples and survey data.
    -Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
    -Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
    -Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
    -Six months experience in narrative report writing.
    -Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
    -Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
