    One field technician is needed to assist with research on scaled quail habitat selection and response to prescribed fire. Field work will be conducted approximately 45 miles east of Roswell, New Mexico starting immediately and running through July 30, 2019. End dates are flexible with a possibility of extension into August. This position is full-time.

    Primary duties will include trapping and banding adult scaled quail and using radio telemetry to monitor adults, nests, and broods. Other duties include deploying thermal sensors, surveying vegetation/topography, general equipment maintenance, and data entry. Work hours are irregular and may include early mornings and weekends. Weather conditions will vary throughout the season, with cooler temperatures in early spring ranging to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. Housing will be provided in Roswell.

    Applicants should have previous field experience and a strong interest in avian research. Candidates with experience capturing, banding, or conducting radio telemetry on quail are highly encouraged to apply. Prior experience with vegetation sampling, GPS navigation, and operating ATVs/4WD vehicles is also desirable though not required. A valid driver’s license is required. Applicants must be willing to hike for long periods of time in hot, dry weather conditions and be comfortable living and working in a remote area. A strong work ethic, attention to detail, professionalism while in the field, and the ability to work both independently and as a team are necessary. Preference will be given to applicants who are personable, as technicians will be living and working together and interacting with landowners. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
