There is one position open for an undergraduate to work on an ongoing long-term study of the evolutionary ecology of bluebird populations in Missoula, Montana. The project will investigate eco-evolutionary dynamics in a wild bird population as well as the mechanisms underlying maternal effects on dispersal phenotypes. In addition, there are many opportunities for students to develop independent projects associated with our overall objectives. The successful candidate will assist with ongoing fieldwork and will gain invaluable experience in many aspects of avian field techniques (e.g. banding, bleeding, morphological measurements, behavioral observations etc). Must be comfortable working alone and be physically fit (capable of carrying a moderately heavy backpack during mountain hiking). Self-motivation, enthusiasm for learning and strong work ethic a must. We are offering a stipend of ~1400/month to cover living expenses and will also reimburse up to $450 for travel to Missoula, MT. This is a full time position (expect long days in the field, 6 days a week) and starts mid-May lasting early to mid-August (start and end dates somewhat flexible). Must be willing to drive your own vehicle for the short commute to and from the field site. To apply please send a cover letter describing why you are interested in this position, a CV, and the names, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of three references to Dr. Renee Duckworth at rad3@arizona.edu. Application review will begin immediately and will continue until position is filled. See Dr. Duckworth’s web page www.u.arizona.edu/~rad3 for more information about the project.
