    Stephanie LeQuier
    • Employer: Oregon State University
Location: Juntura, OR (1); Jordan Valley, OR (1)
      Country: United States
      Last Date to Apply: 03/15/2022
      Open Until Filled: Yes

Position duration 4/1/22 – 7/15/22 (start date is somewhat flexible)

Two technicians are needed to search for and monitor raven nests and conduct auditory and visual point counts for raptors, corvids, and sagebrush-obligate songbirds at randomly selected sites in Eastern Oregon. There may be opportunities to assist with other project duties as needed. This can include using radio telemetry to check greater sage-grouse nests, vegetation surveys, sage-grouse capture, and/or raven capture. This data collection is in support of two PhD projects and long-term research in conjunction with state and federal agencies.

Study areas are in extremely remote areas of Eastern Oregon largely without cell service. Driving 4WD and OHV vehicles and towing small trailers is required. Technicians can expect to hike 3-10 miles/day with 20+lbs of equipment. Weather conditions range from snow/freezing conditions in early spring to 100F+ temperatures by late summer. Technicians will primarily conduct fieldwork by themselves, therefore qualified candidates will be self-motivated, capable of working with little supervision, and have excellent navigation skills.

Housing is provided in the form of project camp trailers. Some camping will be required to complete data collection.
