Job Title: Northern Bobwhite Field Technician

Job Description: Seeking two highly motivated individuals interested in gamebirds, avian species, and agricultural landscapes to assist a graduate student in studies investigating northern bobwhite roost selection, calling behavior, and nesting ecology.

• Assist in bobwhite capture using a variety of capture techniques (trapping, spotlighting, mist-netting)

• Band, take measurements and attach radio collars

• Locate birds through the use of radio telemetry daily

• Conduct sunrise calling surveys, locate roost sites at night, and monitor nests/broods

• Vegetation sampling daily

• Data entry

Qualifications: Successful candidates will have a valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and must be available to perform fieldwork full time. Knowledge of radio telemetry, data collection, and handling of birds or other wildlife is ideal, but everyone is encouraged to apply and will be considered despite their experience level. This research can be rigorous and time-consuming. This position will require flexibility to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, and irregular schedules. The ability to work in the field during all weather conditions and in buggy conditions is a must. A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and attention to details are necessary. Experience driving a UTV is also beneficial. Time commitment and pay: 40hr/week at $10.00 an hour. Housing is not provided at this time, but may be available.
