    Jefferson County Open Space is currently hiring a limited fixed-term, full-time Natural Resources Specialist to assist with our wildlife management program.

    Due to the nature of the work required, this position operates on an atypical schedule that varies depending on project wildlife-related tasks required. Details will be discussed during the interview process. 

     

    Target Hiring Hourly Rate: $25.79 USD Hourly 

    Compensation Pay Range for job profile: $25.79 - $32.24 - $38.68 USD Hourly 

    Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills. 

    This is a limited-term position with projected start and end dates of March 13 and October 15, 2022.  

     

    Essential Duties: 

    • As a Natural Resources Specialist, you will be assisting with wildlife inventory and monitoring efforts in varied landscapes and with a variable work schedule, including but not limited to: 
    • Conducting raptor and breeding songbird surveys across the diverse landscape of Jefferson County, including local species identification by sight and sound, hiking and navigating through rugged terrain, and maintaining detailed notes. 
    • Using GIS related technology to collect and organize spatial data. 
    • Assisting with other wildlife-related tasks, potentially including but not limited to: wildlife camera program management, amphibian and/or reptile surveys, small mammal trapping and management, nocturnal owl surveys, bat monitoring, and public outreach. 
    • Assisting with the Natural Resources and volunteer programs including coordinating volunteers and working alongside volunteers in the field to help with training data quality assurance. 
    • Working independently and as part of an interdisciplinary ecological team while maintaining a positive attitude. 
    • Engaging team members, volunteers, stakeholders, and the public in a professional and collaborative manner. 
    • Other duties as assigned. 

    Minimum Qualifications: 

    • Bachelor's degree in wildlife ecology, biology, natural resource management, or a similar field 
    • One or more years of work-related experience in wildlife conservation and management, natural resources, or similar field 

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Three or more years of wildlife conservation/management experience 
    • Experience with Colorado bird identification and monitoring, including point-count surveys, behavioral observations, and a high proficiency in identifying local bird species by sight and song 
    • Experience with database management 
    • Experience with mobile mapping technology (e.g., ArcCollector) 
    • Experience with natural resource management in Colorado ecosystems 
    • Experience engaging diverse stakeholders (e.g., researchers, contractors, volunteers, and members of the public) regarding wildlife conservation and management
