HAWKCOUNTER needed to conduct the full-season spring raptor migration count at Bradbury Mountain State Park in south-central Maine from 15 Mar – 15 May, 2020. This is a long-term monitoring project, now in its 14th season, using standardized protocol to spot, identify, and count migrating diurnal birds of prey. The counter is responsible for data collection, daily data entry, and interaction with visitors to the count site. A stipend of $1625/month and free housing are provided.
Applicants must be adept at identifying eastern hawks, falcons, and eagles at a distance. Ability to identify non-raptor species helpful, though not a requirement. This site is popular with birding and non-birding visitors, so good communication skills are a must, along with an enthusiasm for repeatedly answering, “How do you know you’re not counting the same birds?”. Counter must be able to provide own transportation for the 3-mile commute between the count site and housing. Please send cover letter, resume, and 3 reference contacts to Jeannette and Derek Lovitch at freeportwildbirdATyahoo.com
