    Duties:  Primary duty is Identification and counting of Raptors in flight.  With additional identification and counting of other migrating species.  Must legibly keep hourly records of the numbers of individuals of each species in migration on provided forms.  This will be the second count conducted on Mackinac Island, Michigan.  Mackinac Island is only accessible by ferry, with no motor vehicles allowed in summer.  The count site is at Fort Holmes; about a 1 mile walk from the ferry dock.  Approximately 8 hours per day starting at 8:30 am.  Responsible to share information about Raptor migration and identification with the public.  Post highlights of the migration via social media and write a blog post on the MSRW website at least 2 times per week describing the daily observations of Raptors and migration.  Detailed end of season summary report required.

    Salary:  $1500 to $1800 per month, housing provided.

    Qualifications: Must be proficient at identifying Raptors of eastern N. America in flight at a distance; having at least one season experience as a Hawk Counter.  Ability to identify other species of birds a plus.  Must be experienced using binoculars and spotting scope, and recording data.  Must have own binoculars in good working condition, spotting scope a plus.  Have data entry experience and be able to keep legible records with excellent writing skills.  Must be able to work alone, be in good physical condition and be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in various weather conditions (cold and wind).  Must have cold weather (winter) gear.  Must be at least 18 yrs old with a valid drivers license and reliable transportation.

    Preference given to individuals with a wildlife biology background,  2 or more years of previous Hawk counting experience; and ability to count and identify other migrating avian species.  Having camera skills and being active on social media is a plus.
