    Job Description: The University of Illinois seeks to hire 10 seasonal field biologists to conduct Golden-cheeked Warbler monitoring on Fort Hood, Texas from 07 February – 03 June 2022. Primary tasks include re-sighting color-banded warblers, locate/monitor nests, territory mapping, point-transect distance sampling, mist net/banding birds, Trimble GPS data input/navigation, ArcGIS, and maintaining a work vehicle and other field equipment.  Crew members will be expected to keep extensive records and follow a detailed protocol.  Staff will receive several weeks of training in the above-mentioned tasks.  Previous experience is a plus.  Staff must provide for their own housing along with transportation to and from work. Field trucks are provided for work duties only.  Work week duration is 35-48 hours/week with overtime pay exceeding 40 hours/week upon approval.  Some weekend work may be required.  Workday starts an hour before sunrise and involves walking in a hot, sunny environment with mosquitoes, chiggers, fire ants, cacti, snakes, and poison ivy along with a colorful variety of birds and wildflowers. 


    Qualifications: A Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife biology, zoology, ecology, or closely related field is required.  Applicants should be reliable, in good physical condition, have excellent hearing, and able to see the full spectrum of colors.  Previous passerine banding experience is preferred.  Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.  Once selected, applicants are required to pass a background check before hiring approval.
