    We are seeking two highly motivated field assistants to conduct point count surveys of migratory landbirds in forests near Bloomington, Indiana, from Aug 8th to Oct 23rd, 2022. This project examines the stopover density of migrants in different habitats across the entire autumn migration season. The data collected will be important information to guide on-the-ground conservation of migratory landbirds in the Eastern US.



    ·      Conducting point-count surveys of fall migrants at different sampling sites every day

    ·      Working independently and in teams under occasionally challenging field conditions

    ·      Data entry and proofing on a daily basis after fieldwork

    ·      Workload is typically 40 hours per week, including weekend work in the mornings


    Required qualifications:

    ·      Exceptional bird identification skills by sight and sound

    ·      Strong familiarity with Midwestern bird species and bird migration

    ·      Proficiency in data collection and attention to details

    ·      Strong work ethic and professional behavior


    Preferred qualifications:

    ·      Valid driver’s license for independent fieldwork

    ·      Previous point-count experience

    ·      Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, wildlife ecology, or related field


    Compensation: $600 per week, paid on a monthly basis. Housing and vehicle will be provided. Field assistants will be considered self-employed, independent contractors and not employees of Princeton University. The position is not benefits-eligible.


    Duration: Aug 8th to Oct 23rd (11 weeks)
