    FIELD ASSISTANT NEEDED to assist Dr. Ellen Ketterson in a population census of dark-eyed juncos at Mountain Lake Biological Station in southwest Virginia. Responsibilities include mist netting, bird banding, blood sampling, GPS, and data entry.

    This position will run approximately from April 27 – May 15.

    The work schedule involves long hours for six days a week, and is challenging but fun. Applicants must enjoy working outdoors (even in bad weather), be self-motivated, able to work closely with others and live respectfully in shared housing. A good attitude and strong work ethic are essential; a good sense of humor is appreciated.

    Applicants must:

    ·      Have previous mist netting and bird banding experience

    ·      Be physically fit and able to hike on rocky terrain

    ·      Have color-vision to identify small, colored leg bands

    ·      The ability to work well in a team

    ·      A personal vehicle for use on gravel roads

    ·      Pass a federal criminal background check


    A stipend ($1,000), mileage reimbursement, and housing will be provided.
