    Powdermill Avian Nature Center, located in the mountains of western Pennsylvania near the town of Rector, is currently seeking several candidates to assume the role of FIELD ASSISTANT I - FALL BANDING ASSISTANT to perform banding, Motus station maintenance, affixing nanotags to birds, photo cataloging, window collision and other research Aug/Sept (exact start dates flexible) to early November.  Powdermill Nature Center is the field station to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and has a rich history (58 years) of being a leader in bird banding.  Additional information can be found at http://www.powdermillarc.org. 

    Banding Assistants will learn the latest methods used to age (with an emphasis on using molt limits) and sex landbirds.  One position will be devoted to testing avian perception of glass in an experimental flight tunnel.  Banding will occur 6 days a week and begin 1/2 hour before sunrise.  Other responsibilities will include assisting with workshops, public education, data entry, and net maintenance.  Pay is between $10-$12/hr for 40 hours per week plus - and we have four total openings for this seasonal opportunity.

     - Prior experience handing, extracting and banding songbirds
     - Ability to bleed bird via brachial venipuncture
     - Affix nanotags to birds
     - Ability to identify eastern birds by sight is strongly desirable
